Traveling with Pets

Passengers who wish to travel with their pets should make a booking in advance through Reservations at least 48 hours prior to the flight’s departure.

STEP1

Approval for transport

Please call Reservations at least 48 hours before departure to seek approval for transport.

STEP2

Check rules concerning what is allowed on the flight

When bringing the pets into the cabin

  • Maximum weight allowance, including the container, is 7kg
  • Only containers up to 38cm in width and 22cm in length should be used. The container should be 23cm or less tall (in case of a hard container) and 26cm or less tall (in case of a soft container), and should be under 23cm tall when pressed from the top.
    It must be stored beneath the seat in front.
  • For each passenger, up to one pet is allowed on board.
  • However, 2 dogs or cats less than 6 months old, a pair newborn and its mother shall be allowed as exceptions
  • The pets must be at least 8 weeks old to be transported via flight
  • Please check country-specific regulations
  • The pets are prohibited from being taken out of their cage or carrier during the flight

When the pets are checked into the cargo compartment

  • Maximum weight allowance, including the container, is 45kg
  • The maximum sum of the three sides (i.e. length, width, height) is 285cm, with the maximum height of the carrier being 84cm. The carrier must be made of a hard material.
  • Only pets aged 16 weeks or older can be transported in the cargo compartment
  • Please check country-specific regulations
  • are prone to health issues when exposed to stress or extreme heat, and as such, cannot be transported in the cargo compartment.
  • as classified under the Enforcement Decree of the Animal Protection Act or pets that show aggression cannot be transported in the cargo compartment

List of short-nosed breeds

  • Dogs: Newfoundland, Dogo Argentino, Dogue de Bordeaux, Lhasa Apso, Boston Terrier, Bulldog, Brussels Griffon, Shar Pei, Shih Tzu, American Bully, Chihuahua, Pug, English Toy Spaniel (King Charles Spaniel, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel), Japanese Chin, Chow Chow, Pekingese, Cane Corso, Tibetan Spaniel, Boxer (and breeds that are similar to the above)
  • Cats: Burmese, British Short Hair, Scottish Fold, Exotic, Persian, Himalayan

Ferocious dogs

  • Tosa Inu, Pitbull Terrier, Rottweiler, Mastiff, Laika, Laika, Ovcharka, Kangal, Wolf Dog, American Staffordshire Terrier and their mixed breeds

Travel regulations for dogs entering the United States

  • Applicable to passengers traveling to the U.S. with a dog/service animal on or after 1 Aug 2024 (*excludes cats and birds)
  • Requirements
  • Dogs must be 6 months or older
  • Must be implanted with a microchip
  • Approved CDC Dog Import Form receipt
  • Documents
  • Quarantine documents vary depending on departure country and vaccination area,
    so check through the CDC website

STEP3

Preparation of the pet container
  • A container with sufficient space for the pet to move inside
  • A waterproof container with a vent and a lock, which can be opened from the outside in case of emergencies
  • Container for birds must be cages made of steel and draped with an opaque fabric
  • Details concerning the container may be found at IATA Traveler’s Pet Corner.​

STEP4

Preparation of documents
  • Please check whether your pets can be brought into the country or region and what the quarantine requirements are.
  • After 1 Aug 2024, for dogs entering the United States will be strengthen.​
  • Details of the rules of each country/region can be viewed at the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency.
  • Please prepare a total of 2 copies of the documents (1 original copy and 1 copy)
  • Original copy- To be kept by the passenger / Copy - To the airline
  • Download and fill out the 2 forms for the pledge on transporting pets and submit it to the employee at the check-in counter.​​
[Arrival at the airport]

STEP1

​​When you submit a certificate of vaccination and health diagnosis form to the Animal & Plant Quarantine Agency, you will be issued a quarantine certificate.​

STEP2

​​​​Take the quarantine certificate with your pet to the check-in counter with enough time to spare.​​​

STEP3

​​​​​​​At the check-in counter, your pet will be weighed and you will be asked to pay the relevant fees. The staff member at the counter will provide guidance.​​​​​

Cancellations or refunds

  • Cancellations or refunds are only available if such a request is made at least 48 hours before departure.
  • However, refunds may be offered in cases where the flight is cancelled due to the circumstances of the airline, including delays.
  • If changing/cancelling an itinerary,
  • Automatic cancellations and refunds are available if the request is made at least 48 hours before departure.
  • Automatic cancellations are available but no refund is given if the request is made less than 48 hours before departure.
  • Refunds and cancellations can be made on the website or through Reservations.

Note

  • If the request is made without booking and less than 48 hours before the departure, you may not be able to travel.
  • Restrictions vary according to different routes.
  • Paid upgrades may not be available at the airport.
  • The maximum allowance per aircraft is seven animals in the cabin and two animals checked in.
  • For customers with animal allergies or sensitivities, please inform our staff and cooperate with their instructions during the boarding process.
  • Please note that you will not be able to sit in emergency exit seats if you are traveling with a pet, and even if you reserved a seat in advance, the seats may be subject to change.
  • Please note that the transportation of pets may be prohibited according to the regulations of the destination country. In such cases, any costs associated with the return of the pet will be the responsibility of the accompanying passenger.
  • Transportation may be refused if the animals bark or make noise at the time of check-in or on board the aircraft to make other passengers uncomfortable.
  • Responsibility for the handling of the animals lies with the owner and we are not responsible for the death or diseases.
  • When the service is requested, guidance and assistance are offered from check-in to boarding to minimize discomfort.
    (However, request for services made on the day of departure without booking at least 48 hours in advance may lead to a delay in the assistance provided)

Service dogs for those with visual impairment

  • It can be transported for free without any additional charge, and there is no need to store the transport container and can be carried on board.
    (However, additional seats cannot be occupied.)
  • Requirements for transport
  • When there is an ID issued by a publicly certified institution
  • When the guide dog is wearing a leash or harness on its back
  • When the requirements for quarantine at the final destination or layover destination are met
  • For long-haul flights, food may be provided during the layover. The food and associated costs shall be borne by the passenger
  • During the flight, the guide dog should be positioned in front of the passenger’s feet

Regulations for service dogs for disabled passengers on the U.S departure/arrival segment

  • U.S. Department of Transportation has set forth transport requirements
  • That allow only trained service dogs intended to assist passengers with physical or mental disabilities.
  • The service dogs must be at least 16 weeks old. One passenger may travel with up to two guide dogs.
  • The service dogs must wear a harness or leash.
  • Fill out the two forms at least 48 hours before the departure and submit them to Reservations.

  • Depending on the quarantine rules of the destination country, vaccination certificates and quarantine certificates may be required. Please check the necessary documents in advance.
  • In the following cases, boarding may be prohibited.
  • If the dog barks too much, threatens nearby passengers or acts in an untrained manner
  • If the required documents have not been prepared or if the booking was not made at least 48 hours prior to departure
  • If the dog invades another passenger’s space that goes beyond the dog owner’s space immediately in front of his feet
