Restricted items

The following criteria apply to airports in South Korea, and if the destination is a foreign airport, please make sure to check the additional prohibited items through the airline or travel agency in advance.
For other restricted items, please check with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority.

Explosive, Flammable, and Toxic Substances

The following items are prohibited from being carried on board or transported as checked baggage.

Items That May Be Used as Weapons

The following items are not allowed in carry-on baggage and must be checked in.

Sporting goods

  • Baseball bats, hockey sticks, golf clubs, billiard cues, ice skates, archery equipment, bows and arrows, climbing gear, inline skates, skateboards, trekking poles, etc.
  • Tennis rackets, inline skates, skateboards, and other non-pressurized sporting items may be allowed in the cabin.

Blades and sharp tools

  • Axes, box cutters, utility knives, kitchen knives, scissors, sabers, swords, and similar items.
  • Disposable razors, electric razors, and non-sharp grooming tools may be permitted in carry-on baggage.

Firearms

  • All types of guns and gun parts, rifles, stun guns, and toy guns.
  • Firearms must be declared to the airline and checked in separately with proper documentation and packaging.

Martial arts and self-defense items

Nunchaku, stun batons, police batons, martial arts gear, and similar items.

Tools

  • Wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, drills, hammers, saws, and any tool with a blade or shaft longer than 6 cm (2.3 inches).
  • Power tools and screwdrivers longer than 10 cm (3.9 inches) must be checked.

General Household and Medical Items

The following items may be carried in small quantities in carry-on baggage or transported as checked baggage.

Household tools

Scissors, forks, nail clippers, long umbrellas, disposable razors, wine openers, tweezers, nail files, hairbrushes, and small household tools.

Liquid hazardous items, toiletries, and medications

Hair spray, perfume, lotion, mouthwash, contact lens solution, disinfectants, rubbing alcohol, nasal spray, eye drops, and external-use medications.
(Carry-on: max 100 ml (3.3 oz) per container / Checked baggage: max 500 ml (16.9 oz) per container, up to 2 kg (4.4 lbs) or 2 L (0.5 gal) per person.)

Medical devices and aids

  • Syringes, thermometers, portable medical equipment, prosthetics, mobility aids, braces, slings, child seats, etc.
  • Liquid oxygen devices must be in protective cases and are only allowed in checked baggage. Battery-powered devices may be restricted due to safety concerns.

Rescue equipment

Small oxygen tanks (under 5 kg / 11 lbs), 1 cylinder included in rescue kits per person, and inflatable life vests (1 per person).
(Items must be safely packed and approved by the airline.)

Batteries and personal electronic devices

Mobile phones, watches, calculators, cameras, camcorders, laptops, MP3 players, etc.

Carry-On Liquid Restrictions for International Flights

  • Liquids such as water, beverages, food, cosmetics, sprays, and gels (gel or cream) are allowed only if they are in containers of 100 ml (3.3 oz) or less, and placed in a single 1 ℓ (0.2 gal) transparent ziplock bag per person.
  • Baby food and medications are permitted in quantities necessary for the trip. Please present prescription or supporting documents to the security staff when requested.
  • Liquid food items such as red pepper paste and kimchi
  • Allowed in containers of 100 ml (3.3 oz) or less, with one 1 ℓ (0.2 gal) transparent ziplock bag per person.​
  • We recommend checking them in as hold baggage, and due to the nature of fermented foods, please pack them in containers filled only two-thirds full.

  • Charging devices or batteries in the cabin is strictly prohibited.
  • Battery capacity must not exceed 100 Wh, and only spare batteries with short-circuit protection are allowed in the cabin.

Powdered Substances

For flights to the U.S., the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) restricts the amount of powder-like substances allowed in carry-on baggage. (e.g., cosmetics, coffee powder, flour, sugar)

* For safety and passenger comfort, in-flight comfort items that block access to emergency exits or aisles, or cause inconvenience to surrounding passengers, are not allowed to be used on board.

Note

  • In accordance with Article 44 of the Aviation Security Act, violations may be subject to imprisonment of not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years, or a fine of not less than 20 million KRW and not more than 50 million KRW. Please do not attempt to bring prohibited items on board.
  • Items requiring prior airline approval may be subject to quantity or transport restrictions.
  • At foreign airports, regulations may differ by country, and items may be confiscated during departure or transit security screening.
  • For customers who purchase liquid duty-free items:
  • If the items and receipts are not sealed in a transparent STEB (Security Tamper Evident Bag) provided by the duty-free shop, they may be discarded or confiscated.
  • Please ensure the items remain sealed until arrival at your final destination.
